Our group has been advocating in front of the Planning Commission for more green storm water infrastructure in our stormwater facilities. They have agreed with us and put that in the Comprehensive Stormwater Plan that now is in front of City Council. If you agree and want to support this effort, please come to Tuesday’s City Council meeting and give public comment on the plan.
Some related talking points are as follows:
- the emphasis on aesthetically pleasing, Low Impact Development (LID) approaches to handling stormwater rather than the old design, which consists of concrete blocks surrounded by a chain link fence.
- the enhanced stormwater plan that has additional funding for upgrading/retrofitting aging stormwater treatment facilities, supporting interested stakeholders such as Sammamish Stormwater Stewards to enhance and restore the functionality or aesthetics of existing stormwater facilities, Property acquisition fund to make more natural storm water facilities that require larger amounts of land, Low Impact Development educational materials for staff, developers and the general public, map and prioritize fish passage culverts and implementation, and update the web page.
